8 Nigerian Artists That Shouldn’t Have Gotten A Record Deal

Nigeria has one of the highest numbers of artists in the music industry. While some are doing exceptionally well, others are still trying to find their way to the top. Although a good number of these are not doing really well in their crafts, there are quite a few of them that should not have gotten the luxury of a record deal.

Shadrach Adeboye Folarin, popularly known as Shaydee is a Nigerian, singer, songwriter, and vocalist. He is currently signed to Empire Mates Entertainment. Shaydee has arguably one of the best vocals in the industry but has failed to deliver according to our expectations. To be honest, he hasn’t in away been consistent in his craft. Talent alone is not enough to push one out there but hard work and consistency.

Davo Lee is an indigenous rapper in 2019 left Olamide’s YBNL. In an interview with pulse Tv, Davolee spoke about how he had no support whatsoever and used to hustle on his own. He got signed into YBNL in the year 2016, and he hasn’t dropped any major hit going forward.

Raoul John Njeng-Njeng popularly known as Skales is a Nigerian rapper. One of his biggest mistakes career-wise is trying to be the singer that he is not. Skales has not really stuck to rap for a long time now and that keeps cutting his songs short of success. However, I dont think he should have gotten a record deal with EME.

Kay Switch happens to be D’Banj’s younger brother. He was riding on the fame of his brother at first and fooled us all. But now, we see a clearer picture. Kay switch hasn’t delivered in a long time and shouldn’t have in anyway gotten a deal with Mo’Hits Records.

Star Boy Worldwide signee, Terri is good, puts out good content through his lyrics, but the major problem, which probably isn’t his fault is the fact that he sounds so much like his label boss, Wizkid. That one factor is enough to put him behind in his career. Another thing is that he hasn’t been doing a lot. He needs to put in more effort. Does he deserve a record deal? No!

Idowest is an indigenous rapper, who is currently signed to DMW. To be honest, Idowest does not deserve a record deal. I feel he takes it for granted. I mean, there are lots of artists out there waiting to be signed into one of the top labels. He should consider putting the resources around him to proper use.

Viktoh was officially signed into YBNL in the year 2014 but, unfortunately, exited in 2016 with claimes of YBNL not giving him what he wanted. Sources say he did not feel good anymore after the exit of his label mate, Lil Kesh. The point still remains that Viktoh shouldn’t have gotten that deal in the first place. He never really worked to repay the faith the label had in him to get him signed.

Sugar boy was in Kizz Daniel’s formal label, G world wide. The only time we used really jam to sugar boy was whenever he did collaborations with his former label mate. Since, Kizz Daniel’s exit, barely have we heard of him.
